The Model Y’s impressive sales surpass the previous record held since 1988, when over 1,200 Toyota Corollas were registered in a single year, as shared by Icland Monitor

The Icelandic Transportation Authority clarified that these figures represent new car registrations each year by model and subtype, rather than direct sales numbers.

Typically, the majority of these newly registered vehicles are sold by importers. The authority also highlighted instances where individuals have imported cars for their personal use.
